Cancer Treatment Center of America

Today was our first day at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Goodyear, AZ which is just west of Phoenix. The center is beautiful. When you walk in you feel like you are walking into a Hilton, not a hospital. Everyone is so kind and no one rushes you. When you speak to a doctor he/she acts like they have all the time in the world to speak with you and answer your questions.

Today was check in and we spoke with several people. We first discussed our insurance plan with a financial counselor and he told us that even though our insurance company is "out of network" they would adjust it to be "in network". That was a relief! Next we saw several nurses who took Matt's vital signs and discussed his symptoms and past health issues. His blood was drawn and then we met with an oncologist. He is the first doctor you see who examines you and decides if any more tests need to be done. He was pleased that we had already had the pet and ct scans and the colonscopy. No new tests are needed.

We then met with a therapist, a naturopathic physician and a nutritionist. We really like that they take a very integrated approach to patient care and address all of the issues that affect the patient and his family. Matt can try acupuncture for pain management if he wants. It is all included! My children and I can speak with the therapist whenever we need someone to talk to that can help us with all of these crazy emotions that we are going through!

Tomorrow we meet with the surgeon, the gastrointestinal doctor and hopefully the oncologist who will then present us with a plan of action. We are more than ready to move forward in beating up this cancer!

Keep praying for us!

  1. Hey Niki and Matt, I'm glad that the day went well and a plan of action is being put together. I am thankful that you feel the Lord's presence with you. "He will never leave you or forsake you." I am praying for you all. Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Keep leaning on Jesus and He will hold you up.
    We love you!
