Today at the cancer center Matt's platelets were at 90,000 so again too low for treatment. We spoke with the oncologist and we have to find out the cause of the continuing low platelet count so we can try to fix it.
Matt had a bone marrow biopsy this afternoon and tomorrow morning he will have an ultra sound on his spleen to see if it is enlarged. I guess the spleen can hold onto the platelets. If this is the cause then he will have to have his spleen removed. The biopsy is to see how the blood cells are working and if they are working correctly or not.
If the problem is not with the spleen or the bone marrow then the oncologist said he will put Matt on some steroids to see if that helps. If all of these don't help to bring up the platelets then Matt will receive very low doses of chemo and see how he does.
I am feeling very low right now and worried about not having chemo treatments. Matt said he is feeling better now that we have a plan in place to try and figure out the problem.
I will try to post again when I have more news.
