Matt started his 8th round of chemo yesterday and he is feeling pretty bad today but he went to physical and occupational therapy this afternoon to help with the neuropathy in his hands and feet. They made him do some physical exercise which he at first didn't want to do, but ended up feeling better afterwards. He is now exhausted and sleeping.
We got the tumor marker or CEA number yesterday and it has gone up one point to 9.5. Since it didn't go up significantly we decided not to worry yet. We will see what happens next time. We come back on Nov. 7 for round 9.
We spoke with the oncologist about the "plan" and he said that if Matt can tolerate more than 12 rounds of the chemo and the chemo is working, he would like to have him continue on with it until either it doesn't work any more or it becomes too much for him. At that time he will move Matt to a maintenance chemo treatment that will just hold off the cancer but will probably not shrink any of the tumors.
As we were deciding on what schedule to use, every other week or every two weeks, I asked the dr about taking time off for vacations. He got very serious and said, "of course I want you to take vacations and enjoy your life......otherwise what is the point of all of this!" Wow if that wasn't a kick in the pants!! Now Matt is making a bucket list and we are planning a trip to Disneyland in December. NO MORE WASTING TIME!!!!
