Trying to Stay Positive and Come Up With a New Plan

Matt's appointment last week was very disappointing and disheartening.  The tumor markers tripled and all  the rest of his blood work did not look good.  The oncologist wanted to stay the course until after Christmas but these past few rounds of chemo have been extremely difficult on Matt.

We feel that it is time to stop chemo and see if we can come up with a new strategy.  The doctor had mentioned maybe trying some type of targeted therapy for the liver and if this can be approved by our insurance and will not have many side effects this might be the route we will take.

Our next appointment is next week and we will be discussing in detail, options, if any, that are available.  We will be looking at quality of life over all else.

Please pray for us that we, with the doctor, will know which path to take at this time.  If it is time to stop treatment and go on hospice, we want to be able to have the strength to do what is best for Matt and the time he has left.

I will update again next week.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!

  1. Hi Matt and Nicki,
I'm Kelli, Don and Susie Becken's daughter, Chad's sister. My Dad share with my this morning about your recent blog post. We're praying for your family and for Matt. This hits so close to home. May God fill you with His strength and His peace. Continue to trust Him. It's amazing how HE carries you when you seem to have nothing left. You are thought about and prayed for often. Sending big hugs from So. CA!

  2. Dear Gleeson Family,
Thank you so much for your kind words and prayers! Matt and I love your parents and think of them as dear friends. We often think of Chad and what a special warrior he was. We were so blessed to have met him!
We do trust our Heavenly Father with all our hearts. Honestly we could not travel this path without Him.
    Love,
    Niki
