Intervento chirurgico con successo!!

Quattro ore più tardi e abbiamo appena parlato con il chirurgo. È andato tutto molto bene e anche se la sua milza era molto ingrandita, sono riusciti a fare la laparoscopia. Il chirurgo ha detto che ha visto alcuni dei tumori al fagato, ma non ha visto del cancro da nessun'altra parte.

Matt sarà degente per circa due giorni, se tutto va bene, e poi verrà dimesso e sarà un paziente ambulatoriale per un paio di giorni, finché non riceveremo l'ok per andare a casa.

Another Good Day!!!

Today we got Matt's blood work results back and his platelet count is up to 173,000!!!! Yeah!!! His platelet count has not been this high since before his first chemo treatment. That means that as soon as his body heals some from his surgery he can get back onto his chemotherapy treatments.

Matt is doing very well today. He is eating normally and up walking around. He is still in pain and needs some pain medications, but overall he is doing very well. See...all of those prayers are helping!!! Keep them up!!

Surgery Successful!!

Four hours later and we just spoke with the surgeon. Everything went really well and even though his spleen was really enlarged, they we able to do the surgery laproscopoly. The surgeon said he did see some of the liver tumors but didn't see cancer any where else.

Matt will be inpatient for about two days if he is doing well and then outpatient for a couple of days until we get the ok to go home.

Una notizia poco buona, ma abbiamo un piano

Oggi le piastrine di Matt erano a 90,000, quindi ancora troppo basse per la chemio. Abbiamo parlato con l'oncologo e dobbiamo assolutamente trovare la causa del persistente ribasso delle piastrine per poter trovare la soluzione.

Questo pomeriggio Matt ha fatto la biopsia al midollo osseo e domani mattina farà un ultrasound alla milza per vedere se si è allargata. Credo che la milza tenga strette le piastrine e non le rilascia. Se questa è la causa, allora bisognerà toglierla. La biopsia è per vedere come le cellule del sangue stiano lavorando e se stiamo facendo un lavoro corretto.

Se la milza o il modollo osseo non sono i problemi, allora l'oncologo ha detto che Matt dovrà prendere degli steroidi per vedere se potranno aiutare. Se tutto questo non aiuta, allora Matt riceverà una dose di chemio più bassa e bisognerà vedere come andranno le cose.

Mi sento molto giuin questo momento e mi preoccupo del fatto che non ha ricevuto la chemio. Matt dice di sentirsi meglio ora che abbiamo un piano per provare a capire il problema.

Proverò a scrivere di nuovo quando avrò più notizie.

Matt ha fatto l'ultrasound alla milza, la quale si è allargata, quindi sembra che la toglieranno. Ci incontreremo con il chirurgo domani mattina. Questa è una buona notizia, perché ora conosciamo il motivo per cui le sue piastrine non stanno risalendo. Il dottore ci ha detto che in molti casi, una volta che la milza è stata rimossa, le piastrine tornano al livello normale e si potrà iniziare di nuovo con la chemioterapia due settimane dopo l'intervento. Domani mattina avremo più informazioni.

Il passo successivo...........

Matt dovrà togliersi la milza il 14 settembere. Dobbiamo aspettare un'altra settimana e mezzo affinché le medicine della chemioterapia siano del tutto fuori dal suo sistema, perché credo che una delle medicine può impedire la guarigione. Matt sarà in ospedale per un paio di giorni e poi avremo bisogno di 2-4 settimane per guarire. Se tutto va bene con l'intervento potrà allora avere un'altra chemio due settimane dopo l'intervento.

Queste ultime paio di settimane sono state molto stressanti, ma ora che abbiamo un piano e ci stiamo muovendo in avanti, spero che le cose potranno essere un po' più semplici e non dovremo preoccuparci molto. Ovviamente stiamo ancora avendo a che fare con la paura che il cancro possa di nuovo prendere controllo, ma per adesso non c'è niente che possiamo fare, quindi credo che sia una preoccupazione che dobbiamo mettere in disparte. Un paziente che ha lo stesso cancro di Matt ha detto “Essere preoccupati non aggiungerà un singolo momento alla tua vita”.Spunto di riflessione!!

Scriverò di nuovo dopo l'intervento per aggiornare tutti di come sia andata.

What's Next.........

Matt will have his spleen out on Sept. 14. We have to wait another week and a half to make sure that all of the chemotherapy medicines are out of his system. I guess one of the meds can impede healing. Matt will be in the hospital for a couple of days and then will need 2 - 4 weeks to recover. If everything goes well with the surgery he should be able to have another chemotherapy treatment about two weeks after surgery.

It has been a very stressful couple of weeks, but now that we have a plan and are moving forward I hope that things will become a little easier and we won't worry so much. Of course we are still dealing with the fear of the cancer gaining control again, but there isn't anything we can do about that for now so I guess it is a worry we need to put aside. I heard a good quote by another stage iv colon cancer patient. His mantra is this, "Worrying will not add a single extra moment to your life." Food for thought!!

I will post again after surgery to update everyone on how it went.
